CoStar subscriptions are strictly for “academic use”.  “Academic use” includes use in the classroom, for coursework, for student projects, and access to limited amounts of data for academic research (involving publishing in an academic journal).  There is a separate process for professors to request larger amounts of data for academic research involving publishing in a peer-reviewed academic journal.  Contact [email protected] for more information.

Non-academic use includes use while employed in the industry, on an internship, for an actual school development project, for a student-managed fund, for academic research where the university is receiving grant funding, use related to writing a book or similar publication, use related to writing a white paper for industry, use for anyone outside the university including friends or family, shared use by anyone else inside the university who does not have a subscription, or use that involves any sort of direct or indirect benefit, either financial or otherwise, to the school, professor, or student.  Questions regarding academic versus non-academic use should be directed to [email protected].

Academic use is closely monitored by CoStar Security.  Violating the academic use agreement will impact your ability to obtain a CoStar subscription in the future.  Misuse may also violate your schools’ honor code.
